ABSOLUTELY LUSH’ - CITROËN CELEBRATES GAVIN AND STACEY’S CHRISTMAS FINALE WITH NEW C3 JOINING GAV’S SAXO ON A ROAD TRIP FROM BILLERICAY TO BARRY ISLAND

  • Citroën's iconic Saxo VTR featured throughout the series as Gavin drove from Billericay to Barry Island to find love.
  • To mark the final episode of Gavin & Stacey, Citroën has celebrated the Saxo’s starring role in the hit series, by taking Gav’s orginal Citroën Saxo on a road trip with the 'award winning' New C3 to recreate some iconic scenes from the hit show.

Citroën has joined in the ‘feel good’ celebration of the Gavin and Stacey finale on Christmas Day with its New C3 joining Gavin’s original Saxo on a road trip from Billericay to Barry Island. The Poseidon Blue Citroën Saxo became an icon to viewers following its starring role in the show and was integral to some of the show’s funniest moments.

The arrival of Citroën C3, the Saxo’s spiritual successor, presented an opportunity to recreate some of the best loved scenes from the popular show including the seafront at Barry Island and Marco’s café (where Stacey worked), Pam and Mick’s home in Billericay and Gwen’s terraced house in Barry.

Gavin’s original Citroën Saxo was a VTR model, a variant which proved very popular with young Brits like him, so much so that more than 40,000 were sold in the UK. As standard, Saxo VTR came with alloy wheels, front electric windows, and cloth seat trim, with optional extras including a CD player.

Although the Saxo VTR was considered well equipped, with alloy wheels and front electric windows, times have moved on and New Citroen C3 is available in fully electric and Hybrid formats and is now equipped with a ‘lush’ 10-inch central touchscreen, wireless Mirror Screen technology and ‘tidy’ features that Gavin and Uncle Bryn could only have dreamt of such as Active Safety Brake and Lane Departure Warning System.

Citroën Saxo was replaced by the multi-award-winning Citroën C3 in 2002 and the sales success continued, with more than 5.6 million C3 units sold worldwide.

Prices for New C3 start at £17,790 with ë-C3 available from £21,990.

With New C3 having already won multiple awards and being shortlisted for 'European Car of the Year 2024', everyone at Citroen is confident it won’t be long until Gavin and Stacey upgrade their Saxo and who knows perhaps Uncle Bryn may even consider the forthcoming New C3 Aircross in part-exchange for his Picasso.
